Our School Day
Our daily schedule includes core classes (English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social & Community Studies), recess, lunchtime and elective/specials classes. We are able to flexibly schedule our days with 50 minute or double (blocked) class periods that allow teachers and students to "dive deeper" into what they're learning. In 5th and 6th grades we utilize a two-person team model. One teacher teaches Math/Science and the other teacher teaches ELA/SS on each team. In 7th and 8th grades, students change classes among four teachers. We are currently exploring two person teams and co-teaching models for our upper grades.
We offer an ever-evolving selection of elective/specials classes. All students take Physical Education & Movement, Health & Wellness, Art, and Media/Tech/Library. Students can also elect to participate in chorus, strings (violin, viola, cello). We are looking into future Band partnerships in the area and are working to add Spanish in 2020. Students have 3 periods of study hall each week, allowing them to participate in those smaller group electives for music and second language. They can also participate in small group support and enrichment in Mathematics and English Language Arts in our Learning Lab.
Our school day is 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Carline dropoff 8:10 to 8:30 am. Students arriving before that time MUST be escorted into the building by an adult, and signed in!
Lunch & Recess
Our students take a mid-day break to eat lunch and participate in recreation around our middle school campus. Recreation involves games outside around our building and in our warehouse - including corn hole, hopscotch, spike ball, foursquare, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. We offer scheduled Zumba and Step during recess each week as well. Picnic tables, spaces under trees, and area near our chicken coop are all popular hangout spots during recess.
